According to analyst Alphaliner the Japanese container line merger, comprising NYK, Mitsui OSK Lines and K Line, is set to go with an outstanding bright magenta colouring, far removed from the usual dark, drab colours seen in the industry.
Alphaliner said that the first drums of magenta paint were being opened to paint the first vessels as it went to press yesterday. Alphaliner even went as far as to mock up a magenta coloured boxship (pictured above).
The analyst said it was “a ‘new’ colour that makes the line stand out as it has not been used by any container carrier before.”
While we agree it is striking, it also rather reminds us of the ContShip Containerlines shocking pink ships (pictured below) back in the 1990’s.
The pink colour was the idea of Contship ceo Cecilia Battistello who when asked about it at the time commented: “Why not? It’s a happy colour”.
