Penang's NBCT expects 5% rise in throughput for 2013
Penang's North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) expects a gradual pick-up in intra-Asia and US trade to raise container throughput in 2013 by 5% from the 1.16m teu seen last year, Penang Port chief operating officer Obaid Mansor was quoted as saying by local media.

The total volume of throughput cargo, comprising container and non-container cargo, however increased by just 0.37% in the year to August to 19.8m freight weight tonnes (fwt) from 19.72m fwt previously.

Mansor placed his hope on the final quarter to boost overall results. “We expect the final quarter 2013 to register further improvement due to the orders for consumer goods for festive holidays in the fourth quarter," he said.
