Pertamina to get biggest locally built tankers soon
Indonesian state oil and gas company Pertamina will soon begin operating two more tankers from local shipbuilder PT PAL Indonesia.

Construction of the Pagerungan and Pangkalan Brandan at the state-owned yard has reached the final stage Pertamina corporate communication vice president Ali Mundakir was quoted as saying in local media.

At 17,500 dwt, Pagerungan and Pangkalan Brandan are Indonesia’s biggest locally manufactured tankers.

“Construction of the tankers is part of Pertamina’s participation in Indonesia’s domestic industry empowerment programs to create synergy among state-owned enterprises,” said Ali.

He added that Pertamina would continue to make use of tankers produced by domestic yards.

Since 2005, Pertamina has ordered 11 locally produced tankers with a total deadweight of between 3,500 dwt and 6,500 dwt.
