PSA global throughput up in 2013

PSA global throughput up in 2013
PSA International has announced a 2013 total handling figure of 61.8m teu for their ports around the world.

The figure is a 2.9% increase over 2012, with the group's main terminals in Singapore returning 3.1% growth to 32.2m teu and terminals outside Singapore reporting a 2.7% growth to 29.5m teu.

Tan Chong Meng, group ceo at PSA, said, "2013 has been an exciting and challenging year for PSA. The group invested in and upgraded our facilities and equipment, stretched ourselves to handle ever larger mega ships, and exceeded the exacting demands our customers have placed on us.

"For 2014, PSA will continue to upgrade our terminals globally, and make suitable investments in new growth markets and in our existing portfolio, as we have done last year. We will continue to engage our customers and partners to grow our port network in the locations that matter to them and make PSA their preferred port of call."

Should the P3 alliance gain regulatory approval, PSA's flagship port is lined up to become the main hub for the alliance's Asia-Med routes, while calls bound for Northern Europe will reduce from three to one.
