Quah Ley Hoon, a chief editor at Singapore broadcaster MediaCorp, is to take over from Andrew Tan, as chief executive of the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Tan, 51, is retiring from administrative service on 31 December 2018, after five years at the helm of MPA, to “pursue new challenges”, Singapore’s Ministry of Transport said in a statement.

Quah, 42, a chief editor at MediaCorp and a board member of Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA), joins the MPA as chief executive (designate) of the MPA from 1 November 2018. She has held leadership appointments in various organisations including the then-National Population Secretariat under the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Finance.

Quah takes the helm of the authority which regulates the world’s second largest container port, busiest port shipping by shipping tonnage, and the largest bunkering port.

Singapore's Ministry of Transport credited Tan with establishing a strong maritime innovation eco-system and championed R&D.

“Under Mr Tan’s leadership, Singapore has been consistently ranked as the top international maritime centre. To chart the future directions for the Singapore maritime cluster, Mr Tan also spearheaded the formation of a high-level International Maritime Centre 2030 Advisory Committee in 2016 to enhance Maritime Singapore’s long-term competitiveness,” the statement said.
