Refocussed MHI yards to start operations on 1 October

Refocussed MHI yards to start operations on 1 October
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is narrowing its shipbuilding focus as re-organised yards in the Nagasaki region start operations 1 October.

Two new companies, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipbuilding and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Hull Production, will focus on shipbuilding and block production respectively.

MHI said the two new companies would enhanced competitive strength through narrowed product lines.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipbuilding will focus on the construction LNG and LPG carriers.

“Efficiency enhancement will be pursued primarily through production streamlining from continuous construction of the same ship type and supply chain management reforms,” MHI said.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Hull Production will specialise in large-scale hull block production. “Plans also call for the company to market its large-scale hull blocks to other shipyards and steadily expand its production volumes,” MHI said.
