Ten days after the MOL Comfort split in two in heavy weather in the Indian Ocean salvors appointed by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) have been able to attach a tow to the fore section of the vessel and it is now being towed to the Arabian Gulf.
“As to the aft part, we have not been able to start the tow operation due to adverse weather. We will continue to monitor the situation,” MOL said.
The adverse weather is causing heavy rolling of the aft section of the vessel and more containers have been lost from the deck.
The cause of the accident remains unknown and is being investigated by MOL, builder Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and classification society ClassNK.
