SCI and GAIL join hands for LNG shipping
Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has penned a memorandum of understanding with GAIL (India) to transport LNG sourced by the natural gas company from US.

SCI and GAIL will cooperate on transporting some 5.8m tonnes per annum of LNG sourced by GAIL from Sabine Pass and Cove Point terminals in US.

The transportation of LNG is expected to commence from mid-2017.

“With several LNG import projects being conceived in the country, LNG is seen as a key growth area for SCI. SCI is planning to develop separate vertical within the company to manage LNG shipping,” said Shri B.K. Mandal, chairman & managing director and director (finance).

SCI is the only Indian company having experience in LNG shipping. The company currently manages three LNG carriers on long term charter with Petronet LNG Limited.
