The fire broke out on the vessel, MT Samudera, on Sunday according to a report from AFP quoting an official from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
The fire was contained but one crew member from the engine room was missing. The ship had a crew of 23 seafarers, 22 who were rescued.
The vessel was transiting from Batam, Indonesia to Bangladesh and was not carrying any cargo at the time of the incident.
