Shanghai box volumes jump in March
Shanghai: China's Shanghai port registered a jump in container throughput in March compared to February, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Company.

Shanghai, the world's largest container port, recorded 2.73m teu of throughput last month, an increase of 24.7% month-on-month. Boxes handled also rose 3.4% year-on-year compared to 2.64m teu seen in March 2011.

In the first quarter this year, the Chinese port moved 7.54m teu of containers, up 3.6% from 7.28m teu in the same period of last year.

Shanghai was ranked the world's number one container port last year by posting 31.7m teu of throughput.
