Shanghai container volumes rise in April
China’s Shanghai port saw its container throughput rose in April to hit 3m teu for the first time this year, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Box volumes were recorded at 3.02m teu in April, an increase of 6.9% compared to 2.83m teu registered in April 2013, SIPG data showed.

Last month’s throughput also increased 2%over 2.96m teu posted in March this year.

In the first four months of 2014, Shanghai port handled a total of 11.19m teu, up 5.3% compared to 10.63m teu in the previous corresponding period.

Shanghai is currently the world’s busiest container port with an annual throughput of 33.77m teu in 2013.
