Shanghai's February box throughput up 13.5%
Shanghai: The world's largest container port, Shanghai, continued to move huge volumes as it clocked a 13.5% year-on-year rise in throughput in February.

The Chinese port handled 2.19m teu of throughput in February, an increase from 1.93m teu recorded in the same month of 2011. February volumes, however dipped compared to 2.62m teu seen in January 2012, according to statistics from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co.

In the first two months of this year, Shanghai achieved a total throughput of 4.81m teu.

In 2011, the Chinese port moved a total throughput of 31.74m teu, beating its closest rival Singapore with 29.9m teu.
