Sichuan co-operates with the Port of Rotterdam on China-Europe rail links

China’s southwest province of Sichuan signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Port of Rotterdam to jointly develop China-Europe multimodal transportation via Chengdu-Tilburg railway link.

According to the MoU, Chengdu International Railway Port Investment & Development Group and the Port of Rotterdam will jointly develop China-Europe multimodal transportation including, but not limited to, cargo transportation from the eastern coast of North America to Rotterdam and then to China via the link of Rotterdam-Tilburg-Chengdu.

In 2016, the Chengdu-Tilburg service was launched. The addition of Rotterdam will provide a more efficient and lower cost logistics channel connecting Europe, America and China.

Peng Qinghua, secretary of Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China said that the cooperation will expand services capability for China-Europe railway link and the connection between China and European countries.

For the Port of Rotterdam 25% of it’s inbound cargo comes from China, while nearly half of China's deep-water cargo to Europe takes Rotterdam as the first stop.
