Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday SSA president Esben Poulsson that its offshore services committee had expressed concerns over the state of the sector.
“Given that Singapore has become quite a hub for the offshore support industry. With the severe drop in the oil price in the second half of 2014 this has had a huge knock effect on these types of companies,” Poulsson explained
As result vessels such AHTS and supply vessels are only finding employment for 70% of the time, meaning that owners need to idle the vessels in port when they are not working.
“They [the vessels] would like to come into Singapore, and the charges involved we are seeking to reduce somewhat under a different formula. The MPA have been very supportive of these initiatives and it’s an ongoing discussion,” he said.
