Slow August sees HK port volumes fall 2.9%
August was a slow month for the Port of Hong Kong, with overall container throughput falling 2.9% from the year before to 1.88m teu.

Volumes at the main Kwai Tsing terminals fell 1.4% to 1.46m teu while at the smaller subsidiary terminals throughput fell 7.7% to 420,000 teu.

Overall volumes also fell 5.1% from the 1.98m teu moved the month before. At the Kwai Tsing terminals throughput fell 6.4% from the 1.56m teu they handled in July.

For the year-to-date, overall volumes were up 3.0% to 15.05m teu while at the Kwai Tsing terminals they rose 6.5% to 11.98m teu.
