Somali pirate held Albedo sinks, crew missing

Somali pirate held Albedo sinks, crew missing
Malaysian-flagged cargo vessel MV Albedo, held by pirates for three years, has sunk in rough seas, while at anchorage off the Somali Coast, the EU Navfor has confirmed.

“Hussein”, a pirate speaking with Reuters, claimed that four of the ship’s crew and seven pirates died in the sinking. It was understood that the vessel had been slowly sinking for almost a week.

"We have confirmed that four foreign (crew) and seven pirates died. We are missing 13 in total. We had no boats to save them."

Meanwhile EUNavfor reports that the whereabouts of 15 crew were still unknown.

The Albedo had 23 crew, from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Iran when it was seized in November 2010, but seven men were freed after a ransom of $1.1m was paid.
