Star Bulk invests $151m on four eco-ships from SWS
Star Bulk has ordered two capesize and two ultramax new buildings from China and Japan with a total value of $151m.

A firm order for a pair of fuel efficient 180,000 dwt bulkers has been made at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) while letters of intent have been signed for two 60,000 dwt eco-ships at a major japanese yard.

The capesize pair are slated for delivery late 2015 and early 2016, the Ultramaxes are both due for delivery from Japan in 2015.

The company also announced it is owed $653,000 from struggling STX Pan Ocean, from whom Star Bulk have received a termination letter for the charter of star Borealis.

The impact of the $24,255 per day charter cancellation has been eased by employing the Borealis on a $27,000 per day voyage charter.

"The company intends to vigorously pursue all amounts owed to it under the charter agreement, including any related damages caused by the termination of the charter party," Star Bulk said in a press release.
