Stricken OSS Bulker sinks off Philippines
Singapore: The Ocean Sentinels Shipmanagement (OSS) owned 49,000dwt bulk carrier Harita Bauxite has sunk off the Northwestern Phillippines, leaving 1 crewman dead and 14 missing.

The vessel suffered an engine failure en route from Indonesia, bound for China, and succumbed to severe weather, taking a cargo of coal with it as it sank.

A passing Chinese vessel, Jin Cheng, rescued ten from two life rafts 22 miles off Cape Bolinao, one of whom, chief cook Myint Aung, later died. The Philippine Coast Guard have subsequently brought the nine survivors ashore at Sual, taking the two injured to a local medical facility. The PGC have issued an note to all mariners to be on the lookout for more survivors in the area.

The casualty has resulted in an oil spill, the area of which is yet to be determined.
