STX Offshore and Shipbuilding sinks to losses
Seoul: South Korea's STX Offshore & Shipbuilding plunged into the red in 2012 due largely to diminished margins from high-value newbuildings.

The Seoul-listed company registered a net loss of KRW631.6bn ($567.7m) in 2012 as against a net profit of KRW19.7bn in 2011.

The shipbuilder recorded a 20.4% year-on-year drop in revenue to KRW3.4trn in 2012.

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding also took an operating loss of KRW400.2bn last year, reversing from an operating profit of KRW103.9bn in the previous year.

A company official explained that the shrinking proportion of high-value newbuildings in its orderbook plus the global economic downturn have led in the profit fall last year.
