Shanghai: China's Shanghai port posted the highest monthly container throughput this year-to-date in September at 2.91m teu, an increase of 5.4% year-on-year.

Dammam: PSA International (PSA) over the weekend broke ground on its first project in Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Gulf, the second container terminal at the King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam.

Tianjin: Local Chinese media reported that the Tianjin Port North Zone is to see three new large container terminals which will boost overall capacity to 32 berths capable of handling 16m teu annually.

Manila: US firm Capital Group Companies, Inc. has bought a 8.7% stake in Philippine-based International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI).

Hong Kong: Hong Kong port's container volumes continued to slide in August, falling 9.2% to 1.95m teu from 2.11m teu in August last year.

Jakarta: It seems to be all systems go for Tanjung Priok Port's new terminal in Kalibaru with state-owned operator Pelindo II awarding an IDR8.2trn building contract to  fellow state construction company Pembangunan Perumahan (PTTP) for six construction projects. 

Singapore: Singapore port achieved higher container throughput in August compared to a year ago but volumes decreased marginally month-on-month.

Port Klang: Westports Malaysia is hoping to move about 9m teu of containers at Port Klang upon the completion of its new 600 m wharf by 2014.

Abu Dhabi: The first phase of Abu Dhabi Ports Company's new $2.18bn Khalifa Port is set to open today, with inauguration of a terminal with capacity of 2.5m teu of containers plus 12m tons of general cargo.

Lome: Continuing the march of Chinese companies into the dark continent, China Merchants Holdings has bought a 50% stake in Thesar Maritime Limited (TML), which owns a 35-year plus 10-year option concession to develop and operate the Lome Container Terminal (LCT) in Lome, Togo's key import and export channel.
