Hong Kong: April was a slow month for Hong Kong's port as container throughput at the main Kwai Tsing terminals saw a small 0.7% rise to 1.49m teu from 1.48m teu in April 2011.

Singapore: The busy container port of Singapore handled larger box throughput in April compared to year ago levels, according to figures from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Laem Chabang: APM Terminals has signed a €1m ($1.3m) contract with Germany-based Conductix-Wampfler to retrofit and convert rubber-tire gantry (RTG) cranes from diesel to electric power at Thailand's Laem Chabang container port.

Shanghai: China's Shanghai port registered a jump in container throughput in March compared to February, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Company.

Singapore: The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will extend port dues concession for containerships for another two years.

Kaohsiung: Taiwan's port of Kaohsiung posted higher container throughput in March both year-on-year and month-on-month.

Singapore: Global ports operator PSA International and its subsidiaries posted a retreat in net profit for 2011 amid slowing container traffic and uncertainties surrounding marco economic development around the world.
