Thailand port chief pressured to resign
Bangkok: Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has accepted the resignation of its director-general Viroj Chongchansittho over an alleged overtime dispute with port employees, local media reported.

The PAT board approved Viroj's resignation which will take effect from 1 April, and appointed Itthichai Suphankul, PAT deputy director-general for human resources and finance, to be acting PAT director-general starting 19 February.

Related documents outlining reasons on why Viroj should quit included abuse of power, neglecting to stem corruption, failure to comply with the board's line for negotiating with employees over an overtime dispute, and interfering in the work of the labour union.
