In what Nicky Wynne, international development director of the Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MTSS), described as “a unique voyage” Princess Anne, who is both president of MTS and patron of the RDA, will board the Royal Albatross for a reception at Jurong Port.
In what is set to be a day of contrasts it will start with a horse display and presentation of Rosette’s by Princess Anne to beneficiaries of the RDA.
The focus will then shift to Singapore’s dry bulk and industrial shipping facility Jurong Port where MTSS has its Drop-in-Centre where Princess Anne will meet volunteers, staff and seafarers.
Following this a reception will be hosted for over 100 VIP guests onboard the luxury 47m long tall ship Royal Albatross. Guest will get a chance to speak directly to Princess Anne and senior other officials onboard.
They will also get a chance to enjoy a performance by former Stranglers lead singer Paul Roberts from his forthcoming show “Let’s Dance – Paul Roberts sings David Bowie”. This will continue after Princess Anne disembarks the Royal Albatross and it sets sail to Resorts World Sentosa.
Wynne noted the contrast of bringing such a beautiful vessel to a busy industrial shipping facility such as Jurong Port. “Its to celebrate the shipping industry at a time when it needs to be celebrated,” she said.
There will also be a charity auction featuring an eclectic mix of a blue diamond, a Vespa and paintings. The aim is to raise at least $80,000 to be split between both charities.
Noting concerns as to how much charities spend on fundraising Lee Wai Pong, past chairman of MTSS and chairman of MTSS Ambassadors, stressed the charity kept a close costs versus donations and, “The net revenue from donations would far exceed the costs involved.”
