Three crew die in Sea of Japan sinking
Seoul: A 269 tonne cargo ship has sunk off Ulleng Island in the Sea of Japan, resulting in the deaths of three seafarers.

The vessel sent a distress call from 548 km northeast of theUlleng, and Korean maritime police dispatched helicopters, patrol planes and patrol vessels to the area. However, all 12 of the crew, consisting of three Koreans and nine Chinese nationals, was recovered from a rubber dinghy by two Japanese naval helicopters, and flown to a Japanese Hospital near Niigata, where three later died.

 

Additional craft scrambled included two Japanese patrol boats and an aircraft, while the US sent two aircraft.
