Tsuneishi Shipbuilding upgrading environmental performance of kamsarmax bulker design

Tsuneishi Shipbuilding is launching a new version of its kamsarmax bulker design with higher environmental and efficiency performance.

The Japanese shipbuilder said that the basic concept of the ship would be preserved from the conventional model but with enhanced features. The vessel will be designed to meet future environmental regulation such as NOx emission Tier III, and the second iteration of goal based standards.

The vessel is being outfitted with energy saving devices. “We are employing our unique energy-saving technologies: MT-FAST3, the hull fitting that boosts propulsion efficiency, and Optimized Propulsive Gear TOP-GR4. Fuel efficiency was boosted by designing a hull with minimal ocean wave resistance and accommodations with minimal wind pressure resistance,” the shipbuilder said.

Tsuneishi launched its kamsarmax design in 2005 and over 200 of the vessels have been completed.

Competing Japanese shipbuilder Japan Marine United (JMU) recently launched its new J-Series design to improve environmental performance and efficiency.
