V.Group get bigger acquiring Bibby Ship Management
World’s biggest ship manager V.Group has grown even further with the acquisition of UK-based Bibby Ship Management.

The move will add 332 staff in UK, Isle of Man, Sweden, Ukraine, India, Philippines and Singapore, as well as Bibby’s roster of 4,000 seafarers.

The acquisition is the latest in consolidation the ship management sector which last year saw Anglo-Eatsern merge with Univan to form Anglo-Eastern Univan, the second largest ship manager behind V.Group's ship management arm V.Ships.

“With the extensive expertise of the Bibby Ship Management team, our ability to offer comprehensive management and support services to offshore oil and gas assets and specialised project vessels is second to none,” said Clive Richardson, V.Group ceo. “We believe our combined capabilities offer a compelling outsourcing proposition to our clients, helping optimise operating and budgetary performance for ship owners. We deliver a higher performance assurance, through integrating a wider range of services in support of the management offering.”

Despite the tanking offshore industry, Bibby Ship Managment has maintained a strong focus on the offshore oil and gas market, coo Chris Stone told Seatrade Maritime Review, which, surprisingly, was "going from strength to strength."

"Bibby Line Group has built its reputation as a high quality, safe and reliable ship owner and manager over 200 years’ of trading in the most competitive and dynamic markets in the world. We set up our ship management business in 1982 and we are now involved in managing vessels for many well‐known multinational companies,” said Michael J Bibby, md of Bibby Ship Management parent company Bibby Line Group, based in Liverpool, UK.
