Continuing an occasional feature taking an anecdotal look at the state of the offshore marine sector based on activity in the Johor Strait/River area this weekend we saw the Malaysian jack-up rig Velesto Naga 2 being towed out for its new charter contract with Petronas.

In contrast to the scene in 2015 when billions of dollars worth of rigs could be seen stacked in the Johor river area, Sunday saw the Naga 2 under tow heading towards the Singapore Strait.

The rig is one four rigs owned by Velesto (formerly UMW Oil & Gas) that were contracted by Petronas Carigali for one-year with a combined contract value of $104.68m, plus two annual renewal options.

The Naga 2 can be seen in the video below under tow passing Singapore.
