Hong Kong: Hong Kong-based Wah Kwong Maritime Transport has booked eight 64,000 dwt dry bulk carriers at China-based Chengxi Shipyard.

The deal is for four firm orders and four options to build the Dolphin 64 ships.

The Dolphin 64 ship series, designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design Institute (Sdari), is said to boast 17% fuel efficiency compared to a conventional 57,000 dwt supramax bulker , allowing each vessel to save up to $1.03m in bunker bills a year.

Wah Kwong's previous orders at Chengxi Shipyard were for seven 53,000 dwt bulkers and two 35,000 dwt bulkers.

This year to date, Chengxi Shipyard has clinched orders to build nine ships with a combined capacity of 477,400 dwt.
