Western Marine inks twin boxship deal

Western Marine inks twin boxship deal
Chittagong: Bangladesh-based Western Marine Shipyard inked a deal to build two new small container vessels for Neepa Paribahan and Mir & Islam Enterprise.

The 160-teu feeder boxships will carry containers from Chittagong port to Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (PICT).

Each of the vessel will cost approximately $3.2m and Western Marine has already secured orders for six of such units.

Bangladesh has issued 50 licences for inland boxships to ply the Chittagong-PICT route, which is expected to facilitate increased trade within the country.

The present trade momentum suggests that at least 100 boxships will be required to meet the growing volume of containers received by Chittagong port, according to Western Marine.
