Westports eyes 9m teu throughput by 2014
Port Klang: Westports Malaysia is hoping to move about 9m teu of containers at Port Klang upon the completion of its new 600 m wharf by 2014.

“Our current capacity is 7.5m teu and we are confident to handle 8m teu easily once our additional 300 m berth is ready by January next year,” said Ruben Emir Gnanalingam, ceo of Westports.

“We're also hoping to achieve 9m teu once the 600 m berth is ready by 2014,” he added.

Ruben said Westports is confident of handling 7m teu this year compared to 6.4m teu in 2011 mainly due to its cargo volume between Asia and European countries.

Westports handles around 64% of the total container volume at Port Klang, Malaysia's key seaport.
