Wisdom Marine books two handysizes at Namura Shipbuilding
Taiwan’s dry bulk shipowner Wisdom Marine has ordered two new 34,000-dwt bulk carriers at Japan’s Namura Shipbuilding.

The two newbuildings would cost no more than $44m in total, Wisdom Marine announced last Friday.

The handysize bulkers are scheduled to be delivered between in the second half of 2016.

Wisdom Marine currently owns and operates a fleet of 107 vessels, and has an order backlog of 27 ships including the latest four handysizes.

Wisdom Marine has been focused on handysize bulkers since it was founded in 1999, but it has placed orders on the larger kamsarmaxes of more than 80,000 dwt, as well as started operating the 55,000-63,000 dwt supramaxes, in a ship-type diversification move.

Amid the tonnage glut in the global dry bulk shipping market, the Taiwanese shipowner believes in the importance of continual fleet renewal through new orders and gradual phasing out of the elderly tonnage.
