Taipei: Taiwan-based Wisdom Marine Group has went on an ordering spree by inking nine dry bulk newbuildings from Japanese shipyards.

The Taipei-listed firm announced orders to build one 55,000 dwt bulker from Kawasaki Heavy Industries at $27m, with delivery scheduled in 2015. It also booked two 34,000 dwt bulkers from Namura Shipbuilding at $23m apiece, with deliveries from 2016.

In addition, Wisdom Marine managed to secure financing from six Taiwanese banks for NT$5.3bn ($178.5m) to construct six new dry bulk carriers.

The six newbuildings include one 74,700 dwt panamax, two 82,000 dwt kamsarmaxes and three 60,000 dwt supramaxes, all of which will be built at Sasebo Heavy Industries, Tsuneishi Shipbuilding and Oshima Shipbuilding.
