CMA CGM orders BIO-SEA ballast water systems for 17 containerships

Container line CMA CGM is over EUR5m ($5.8m) in BIO-SEA ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) for 17 containerships.

CMA CGM's nine 22,000 teu, LNG-powered newbuilds under construction in China will be fitted-out with two 3000m3/h capacity BIO-SEA B 10-1500 FX units, while eight existing 9,000 teu vessels will be retrofitted withBIO-SEA B 10-1000 FX unit capable of treating ballast water flow rates of 1,000m3.

The orders are the first received by BIO-SEA since it gain US Coast Guard type approval last month. The BIO-SEA ballast water solution is manufactured by French group BIO-UV.

“The order substantiates our view that BIO-SEA is one of the best ultraviolet treatment systems available. It is suitable for all waters of the world in which these CMA CGM vessels will operate and is one of the very few ballast water treatment systems that is currently compliant with both USCG and IMO requirements,” said Xavier Deval, business director, BIO-SEA.

The order is worth over EUR5m.
