he solution, that has received type approval from Inmarsat, reduces the cost of installation and simplifies the management of multiple KA-band antennas used to overcome loss of link caused by blocked of the antenna from the vessel's superstructure or other deck equipment.

The solution that uses a single cable to connect Cobham's Sailor 100GX systems does away with the need to install a 19 inch rack unit to operate multiple antennas, and at the same time ensure seamless switching between the two. This saves around $10,000 in terms of installation costs according to Cobham.

“Multiple antenna installations can be complex to plan, install, commission and manage.. The Sailor GX Antenna Diversity Solution meets a specific demand in the market as it is a simple and highly cost-effective way for service providers to optimise Fleet Xpress and secure the most reliable service for the end-users,” said Jens Ewerling, director, maritime broadband for Cobham.

Ronald Spithout, president, Inmarsat Maritime, commented: “Inmarsat welcomes innovations from its long-term hardware partners that aim to simplify the installation and management of Fleet Xpress services, especially in the more challenging operational environments, where reliability and higher quality of service are critical.”

Cobham products will be on display at the Jason Marine stand at Marintec China 2017 at booth no. N2-J21-1.
