Fire breaks out on rig at Harland and Wolff shipyard
Some 350 shipyard workers were evacuated from an oil rig at Harland and Wolff after a small fire broke out during welding operations yesterday.

A contingent of around 50 firefighters arrived on scene and joined up with Harland and Wolff firefighters to battle the blaze.

Lennie Entwistle, commander of the Northern Island Fire and Rescue Service Belfast said the blaze was "contained and confined to one of the legs of the oil rig.”

The service received the call at 1-45pm on Thursday and the fire had been brought under control by 4pm. No injuries were reported.
