IRISL to launch new Caspian Sea service

IRISL to launch new Caspian Sea service
Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) will launch a new regular shipping service in the Caspian Sea aimed at raising the competitiveness for Iranian exporters in selling their goods to Russia, reports said.

Valiollah Afkhami, head of Trade Promotion Organisation of Iran (TPOI) inked a memorandum of understanding with IRISL for the new shipping service, local media reported.

“Currently the existing shipping lines in the Caspian Sea do not have regular lines and actually they do not carry large volumes of goods in each voyage either,” he was quoted saying.

He added that delays in shipment of goods have always been a problem for Iranian exporters.

“When exporters are not able to deliver their cargoes on time, they will gradually lose their market. Therefore, it is always necessary to regulate the shipment of cargoes from Iran and vice versa,” he explained.

Mohammad Hossein Dajmar, managing director of IRISL, told reporters that the new Caspian Sea shipping service will have six sailings every month from Iranian ports to Russia and Kazakhstan.

The shipping service will have a transportation capacity of 18,000-36,000 tonnes of goods in a week.
