Kleven bags biggest ever offshore contract
Kleven has secured a contract with offshore firm Østensjø Rederi worth NOK1.4bn ($236m), the largest ever order in the builder’s history, for an offshore construction vessel (OCV).

The SALT 304 OCV design vessel featuring a 400 tonne crane, a 70 tonne crane, vertical lay system and carousel, is to be built at Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway.

The order represents repeat business between Kleven and Østensjø Rederi, and the first since a delivery ten years ago. “It is very positive that we can have this vessel built in Norway,” said Østensjø Rederi ceo Johan Rokstad. “Our former experience with Kleven is good, and we look forward to continue the cooperation. Kleven is a highly competent and innovative shipbuilding company.”

Kleven ceo Ståle Rasmussen said: “We operate in a highly competitive international market, and it is very satisfying that we win contracts to build extremely advanced vessels like this.

“We have made large investments over the past few years to ensure that we can continue the proud ship building traditions we have, and parts of this vessel will be produced on our new robotised welding line in Ulsteinvik,” Rasmussen said.
