Kotug Smit buys tug trio from Damen

Kotug Smit buys tug trio from Damen
Kotug Smit Towage is buying three new tugs from Damen Shipyards.

Kotug Smit is buying two ASD Tugs 2913 and an ATD Tug 2412 Twin Fin, with two of the vessels built under Damen’s built to stock programme available for deliver. One of the ASD 2913 newbuilds is fitted with a fire-fighting system.

The tugs will be deployed on Kotug Smit’s UK operations and bring to 22 out 69 the number of Damen built vessels the company has in its fleet.

“These Damen tugs were selected for their high performance and short delivery time and will fit perfectly into our European harbour towage operations, especially given their commonality with the tugs we are currently operating,” said Kotug Smit ceo René Raaijmakers.

Damen’s area director Benelux, Mijndert Wiesenekker said, “Thanks to Damen’s standardised shipbuilding philosophy two of the vessels had already been constructed as stock vessels, ensuring Kotug Smit of the fastest possible delivery time.”

No financial details of the deal were released.
