The vessels, delivery of which is slated for 2014 onwards, consist of 9 Damen 3212 tugs, each with 80 tons of bollard pull (bp), and 5 2810 models, with 50 tons bp. The new tugs will assist tankers at near-shore loading terminals and at single point moorings further offshore, as well as being equipped with a powerful firefighting system in case of emergency.
A symbolic keel-laying ceremony took place in Gorinchem, The Netherlands, to inaugurate the building of the tugs, whereupon the two company-logos were welded together as a symbol for the substantial project and the companies’ longstanding relation. The tugs are to be constructed at Damen’s Galati shipyard in Romania.
