Satcoms provider Marlink has introduced a faster burst rate, or Maximum Information Rate (MIR), of up to 6 Mbps at no extra charge for customers using its Sealink Allowances maritime VSAT service plans for crew communications or operational applications.

Depending on network availability, the new MIR is twice as fast as the previous 3 Mbps thereby doubling throughput for the same price.

“Having already doubled the burst rate on Sealink Allowances in September 2016, this latest increase reflects our ongoing program to deliver more value to our customers,” says Tore Morten Olsen, Marlink’s president - Maritime, “helping them to get more from their investment in maritime broadband both in terms of connectivity and flexibility.”

Separately, Marlink reports that Norwegian tanker company Knutsen, a longstanding customer since 2002, has extended its contract for use of Sealink Premium VSAT service aboard its fleet of 38 vessels and two planned newbuilds.
