The deal will also include new direct cargo links, studies geared towards development of a Moroccan agricultural logistics hub, ro-pax services beween Marseille and Tangier, and training and personnel support programmes.
Following a visit to Marseille Fos by Morocco’s transport and logistics minister Aziz Rabbah and hosted by the port’s ceo Christine Cabau Woehrel, the new agreement will add to the existing weekly container, car-carrier, and con-ro links between the two ports, as well as indirect container and ro-ro connections, which amount to a total cargo traffic of 500,000 tonnes every year.
Rabbah was accompanied by port directors for Tangiers and Casablanca, as well as maritime authority representatives and the head of the Moroccan export association.
A follow-up trade mission is now planned between 23 and 26 September, where representatives from Marseilles Fos will be travelling to Tangiers and Casablanca.
