Naming ceremony at Felixstowe for Marchen Maersk

Naming ceremony at Felixstowe for Marchen Maersk
Maersk Line's 18,000 teu Marchen Maersk was named at a ceremony at the Port of Felixstowe yesterday.

The megaship will operate Maersk Line's Asia-Europe service, and is the 46th ship of over 18,000 teu to call at the port in 2015.

Commenting on the event, Clemence Cheng, ceo of the Port of Felixstowe and md of Hutchison port Holdings (HPH) Europe division, commented: “Maersk Line has a long-term relationship with the Port of Felixstowe and we are honoured that the naming ceremony was held here. The Marchen Maersk is the 17th maiden call we have had by one of Maersk’s Triple-E vessels this year.”

Maersk Line UK & Ireland md, Brian Godsafe added: “I’m delighted to host the naming ceremony of a Triple-E here in the UK, in the company of our customers and partners. The Triple-Es, with their efficiency, economies of scale and environmental benefits, are an embodiment of our business.”

Felixstowe's capacity for handling large container vessels will be expanded later this year, when a 190 m extension to berths eight and nine will bring them both to 920 m, and the port's berth length to 3,900 m.
