He will join the team at the London-based Group secretariat in April 2019, working alongside Bardot during a three-month handover period.
Separately, Paul Jennings, ceo of the North of England P&I Club, is due to become new International Group chairman in November, succeeding Hugo Wynn-Williams, chairman of the UK P&I Club.
The International Group comprises 13 separate mutual P&I Clubs which together provide third-party liability covering for some 90% of the world fleet. The group acts as mouthpiece for P&I sector, also operating a claims-sharing mechanism underpinned by reinsurance on its members’ behalf.
Shaw has practised Shipping and Marine Insurance law since 1990, during which time he has worked closely with the Group Clubs, gaining extensive experience of handling P&I and Defence claims, first at Richards Butler and Then Reed Smith following the two companies’ merger in 2007.
Commenting on his appointment, Shaw declared himself “ready for the new and different challenges” that awaited him at the International Group.
