Nordic ceo leaves shipping
Claus Thornberg has been appointed president and ceo of Nordic Tankers as Tommy Thomsen moves to work for the Danish Government and joins the board of the tanker company.

"After 35 years in shipping, Tommy has decided to pursue other opportunities and we congratulate him on his new position." said Terje Askvig, chairman of the board at Nordic.

Currently head of fleet management, Thornberg has 29 years of experience in shipping and holds responsibility for sales and purchases and mergers and acquisitions as well as the management of Nordic's 31 owned and 120 operated chemical tankers.

Thornberg commented, "Nordic Tankers has been building a strong foundation with focus on safety, customer service and business optimisation. We are now well positioned and the organisation is geared for further growth. I am excited by this opportunity and look forward to continue strengthening and expanding the business in cooperation with the employees."

Echoing the incoming ceo's enthusiasm, Askvig said, "Claus has substantial managerial experience from operation, chartering, technical management, new buildings, sale and purchase as well as strategic development. He has a strong track record and he has demonstrated leadership. The board looks forward to have him lead the way with our strategy to consolidate the chemical tanker segment."

Tommy has done an excellent job in combining Herning Shipping and Nordic Tankers into one of the leading chemical tanker operators. We acknowledge his work and dedication and we look forward to welcoming him to the board," Askvig closed.
