Operator dies in crane collapse at Bremerhaven
A 52-year-old quay crane operator has died after his crane collapsed at the APM Terminals-operated Port of Bremerhaven.

The boom of the 23-row ZPMC super-post-panamax crane snapped causing wreckage including the cabin to fall and smash into the hold of 6,674 teu Maersk Karachi below.

The body of the deceased man was recovered from the wreckage after several hours of searching, with authorities now investigating the cause of the accident, which is as yet undetermined. No-one else was hurt in the incident.

Maersk Karachi, meanwhile, suffered damage to the hull and will reportedly need repairs. A number of containers onboard have also been damaged.
