Port of Dover chief resigns

Port of Dover chief resigns
Bob Goldfield, ceo and overseer of the Dover Harbour Board’s (DHB) highly controversial privatisation plan, is resigning after 11 years in his post.

“For the past 11 years, I have had the honour to be the chief executive of the UK’s premier port and certainly one of the World’s busiest ports.  Those 11 years have been, in turn, exciting, demanding and challenging,” said Goldfield. “I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their help and support over the years and to wish the Board and all of the Port of Dover staff every success in the future.”

So far this year, Goldfield has presided over a year-on-year increase of 6.7% in Road Haulage Vehicle (RHV) traffic, while Eurotunnel truck volumes decreased by 9%. The Port’s passenger numbers also grew by 6.5% to 2,135,295 and coach traffic increased by 13.8% to 15,640.

The port’s coo, Tim Waggott, will be appointed as acting ceo on 1 June 2013.  Goldfield will carry out other duties for DHB in advance of his September departure. “Bob Goldfield has devoted himself to this role, has delivered significant change and led the organisation into a more commercial, resilient and successful port operation,” said DHB Chairman George Jenkins.
