Presidential christening for new CMA CGM flagship
CMA CGM reports that French President François Hollande last week christened its new 18,000 teu flagship the CMA CGM Bougainville, largest containership ever to fly the French flag, at a special ceremony held in Le Havre.

The visit by the French President - pictured above with CMA CGM founder and ceo Jacques Saadé – also coincided with the opening of the new ENSM training school in the French port city.

In his speech Hollande paid tribute to the success of Le Havre, which he dubbed “a port in full expansion”, and of the wider HAROPA (Le Havre-Rouen-Paris) port system, in having grown traffic steadily since 2011. HAROPA throughput increased 4% in 2014 to reach 2.5m TEU.

“Greater Paris is connected to the sea by Le Havre,” Hollande said, adding that the government wanted to improve infrastructure and connectivity between the capital and the port.

Jacques Saadé pointed out that the vessel is being deployed on the French Asia Line (FAL) between Europe and Asia and is the first containership in the world to employ Traxens technology that transforms standard containers into smart connected objects.naming
