Rotterdam officially offers LNG bunkering for inland shipping
The port of Rotterdam has become the first in Europe to officially offer LNG bunkering for inland shipping vessels.

Port management regulations have been amended to allow inland vessels to take on LNG bunkers in the Seinehaven, in Rotterdam Botlek from 1 July.

“LNG is a new fuel for inland and ocean shipping. This means that the regulations need to be amended. Otherwise, there can be no bunkering and the innovation has no chance of success. Designating the Seinehaven as a location for possible bunkering operations is the first step towards this,” said Port Alderman Jeannette Baljeu.

Rotterdam port authority is working with others in the region, including Amsterdam, Gothenburg and Antwerp, in preparing further international regulations.

The location of the first LNG bunkering terminal in the port is expected to be announced later this year.
