“We don’t expect to see a short term recovery for the OSV segment, and we have to accept and learn that this state of the market will remain so for a few years,” said Christian Strahberger, ceo of Schottel. “However we also do not expect the market to go down any further.”
While the marine equipment industry has been impacted by the severe recession in the OSV market, there will be a “huge challenge for suppliers” when all the cold/warm stacked OSVs get back into operation on market recovery, observed Strahberger.
“In the future when the offshore market becomes stronger, it will appreciate the availability of new equipment and products that are more efficient,” he said.
Spay-headquartered Schottel highlighted that its Rim Thruster SRT, tested over five years, has gradually entered the market with powers ranging from 200kW, 315kW, 500kW to 800kW. The Rim Thruster SRT features a compact size, silent operation and is oil-free.
Schottel also has a new thruster optimised for open sea and coastal operating conditions, the Schottel EcoPeller (SRE), for achieving overall efficiency and course keeping stability of the ship thus enabling fuel savings.
The manufacturer of propulsion and steering systems has delivered approximately 600 units mainly of thrusters in 2015 and is expecting to deliver the approximate same number this year.
