Successful first MEDports Forum agrees to ongoing co-operation
More than 100 participants from 25 ports around the Mediterranean took part in the inaugural MEDports Forum, a two-day event held in Marseille this week.

Presiding over the event was Port of Marseille chief executive Christine Cabau Woehrel in her capacity as current president of Intermed Gateways – a grouping of the ports of Marseille, Barcelona and Genoa - which co-organised the meeting together with development body Union for the Mediterranean.

The forum aims to promote co-operation and business development within the Mediterranean basin, in line with InterMed Gateways’ objective of trying to attract more European cargo through ports in southern rather than northern Europe.

After two days of fruitful exchanges on subjects such as security, the environment and the changing complexion of the liner business, participants agreed that the cooperative talks should become a regular fixture, extending an open invitation to more ports across the Mediterranean to take part.
